Building a strong partnership between parents and daycares can be essential to the success of a child’s development. To ensure that your child is getting the best possible care, it’s important to foster a positive relationship with the daycare staff. Communicate with Families Often
When communication between parents and daycare staff is strong, learning becomes more collaborative, problems are acknowledged, solutions are offered, and accomplishments are recognized. This can be attained through multiple modes of communication. Engaging with families during the drop-off and pick-up times is a start to building a strong partnership, but emails, texts, and newsletters will add an extra layer of communication parents will appreciate.
Invite Parents to Participate During Daycare
If parents have the flexibility to help in daycare from time to time, we encourage childcare facilities to invite them to read to the children, and help out during holiday parties or during different events. This will create a strong parent-daycare partnership because parents will feel like they’re contributing. There may be some parents who can’t come in quite as often due to work commitments. Offering other opportunities to volunteer or donate snacks will still let them feel like they are engaging with their child.
Develop Daily Reports
Daily reports allow parents to see the basics of a child’s day and can prompt questions and conversations between parents and the childcare staff. The partnership between the two will progress because it helps parents address things at home and then maintains consistency between daycare and home life.
